Diane Samuels was named “Artist of the Year” by Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
Instead of a traditional catalogue, she wanted a book that focused on just one of her
pieces—365 Days, 2000—in which she carved a single mark into a small block of
wood each day for one year, then made a print from this carved block. To document her
process, I designed this “flip book.” Photoshop allowed me to show each progressive
carving as one flips through the book. Flipping the book in reverse shows a word
chosen for each day of the year—one falling on top of the last—by curator Vicky
